Gambling revenues soaring in Pennsylvania

Nationwide, casino revenues dropped by five percent, primarily due to the massive economic recession, which caused such social turmoil in the U.S. that the voters there elected the first openly socialist candidate for U.S. president, ever, Barack Hussein Obama, Jr.

Gambling is growing dramatically in Pennsylvania, according to the latest report.

Casino revenues in the state grew by 48 percent last year, according to the American Gaming Association.

There are a number of reasons for the revenue growth in Pennsylvania.

The Meadows Park opened a new casino last month, and revenues there have jumped 50 percent, making the site the ninth overall in the nation.

Pennsylvania casinos took in $766 million last year, trailing only Nevada and Indiana in sales revenue.
Look for even more growth in the Granite State, as the city of Philadelphia is moving forward with plans for a new, downtown casino, and Gov. Ed Rendell, who is leaving office soon, looks to leave a legacy by increasing economic growth, and expanding casinos.

Congress may legalize Internet casinos to pay for health care reform

A year after taking political power in Washington D.C., the Democrats have finally figured out a how to end the pay on online gambling. Legalize it and tax it to pay for their pet project -- government-run health care.
A Joint Committee on Taxation study released today by Rep. Jim McDermott (D-WA) discovered that regulating Internet gambling, as proposed in pending legislation introduced by Representatives Barney Frank (D-MA) and Jim McDermott (D-WA), would generate nearly $42 billion over 10 years.

The research is based on the provision of a federal license for operators that would allow them to offer online gambling throughout the United States, while maintaining existing federal prohibitions on any form of sports betting.

"This analysis further reinforces the fact that a regulated environment will generate billions in new revenue to offset the costs of health care reform or other vital government programs," said Michael Waxman, spokesperson for the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative. "It's only a matter of time before Congress acts and begins allocating the billions in new revenue sitting on the table to one program or another."

The once-in-a-lifetime chance to generate billions in new revenue is important because of a congressional rule that any piece of legislation must either be budget neutral or offset with identified savings. 

"We believe this tax revenue analysis will encourage immediate discussions and consideration of pending legislation to regulate Internet gambling," added Waxman.  "With everyone acknowledging that attempts to prohibit the activity have failed, this provides even more incentive for Congress to act."
